It does, of course, require a mobile subscription that is usually provided by a local mobile operator at a monthly price that usually depends on your monthly data need.

These mobile subscriptions are usually reasonably priced when you use data in your home country, but this is often far from the case if you travel to another continent.  Using data on your standard mobile subscription while traveling on another continent, can become a very expensive and unpleasant experience. UPeSIM has an established business offering prepaid travel data packages in more than 80 countries at very reasonable prices compared to what users usually get from their local operator. UPeSIM has specialized in offering these prepaid travel data packages for business and vacation travellers on eSIM. 

Since eSIM has become a standard feature on most new phones, it is now a lot easier to purchase and use travel data services like the ones offered by UPeSIM.

 
 

With UPeSIMs solution, the user purchases a data package online, scans the received QR code to download the eSIM profile and is now ready to activate and use the eSIM-based data package when arriving at the destination.

Roaming data

The flexible alternative to local agreements 

For a long time UPeSIM has been using eSIM-services from local operators and then integrating and reselling these online to travelers via the website. However, each new local operator requires a new agreement and integration work, to provide the user with a hassle free experience. Implementing and managing all these integrations is challenging and takes up a lot of resources. 

By using Cobira as a supplier of eSIM profiles, UPeSIM gets a multi-IMSI roaming solution that can be used globally on just a few eSIM profiles and with only one integration. By using Cobira, UPeSIM can launch its services in new countries effortlessly. Using Cobira’s Connectivity Management Platform and API, UPeSIM can fully control the service and gather information about all of its SIMs.

Using roaming data as a basis also opens up for multi-network and multi-country data packages.  If customers want to travel in a region and use the same travel data package, it is possible to create a data package for use in e.g. EU or middle east countries - A flexibility you do not have with a local operator. Via Cobira’s platform, a new data package can be created within a few minutes, with any given data allowance, usage period, and list of networks and countries where it is allowed to use the data package.

Bulk data vs. Data packages 

It is well known that mobile operators like to sell data subscriptions as monthly packages. When the user uses less data than what has been sold, it is the mobile operator that picks up the gain. This also applies in many cases when UPeSIM resells a data packet from a local mobile operator.
